Can I plan who is working before assigning customer appointments?

Plan staff shifts, on-call coverage, and time off

Use Shifts to create working hours for technicians or office staff across a date range and selected weekdays. Include on-call coverage, overnight shifts, or scheduled time off. Review the staff calendar and edit an individual shift when coverage changes.

Plan staff shifts, on-call coverage, and time off

  1. Choose the staff and schedule type

Open Shifts and create a schedule for technicians or office staff. Select the people who share the same working pattern, using business-unit filters when helpful.

  2. Set the dates and weekdays

Choose the start and end dates, then select the weekdays to include. Enter the start and end times once for the selected staff and dates.

  3. Describe the coverage

Create a normal scheduled shift or mark on-call coverage. For a shift that crosses midnight, use the overnight option. Use the time-off option with its absence type and notes when the person should be unavailable.

  4. Create and review the calendar entries

Save the schedule to create the entries across the selected people and dates. Review them on the calendar, filtering by staff type, business unit, or shift type to inspect the coverage you need.

  5. Adjust the individual shift

Open a calendar entry to edit its times or shift type, or remove it when appropriate. Review the resulting calendar before planning customer appointments around the team’s coverage.

A working pattern can cover several staff

The creation flow applies the chosen weekday and date pattern to each selected staff member. Staff do not need identical schedules: create a separate set of entries for a different pattern.

Time off has its own record

Scheduling time off captures the absence type, time period, and optional note. Keep the staff calendar and absence information current when people’s availability changes.

Questions about this workflow

Does this also book a customer job?

A shift records the staff working period. Customer jobs and their appointments are created through job booking and dispatch.
